our story

Where it all began.. Our gorgeous little son, Theo, was born a fighter. As soon as his life began he was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome (or Trisomy 21) shortly after a traumatic birth, we were told that he also had heart and lung defects, as well as a chest infection. He was completely reliant on oxygen for the first few weeks.

Constantly battling recurring respiratory infections throughout that winter, Theo was hospitalised on numerous occasions. We were advised to keep him indoors as much as possible due to even the cold air outside being too much for his fragile respiratory system and low immunity.

I became extremely cautious and went as far as possible to try and improve the quality of air he was breathing, especially at home.
Studying the ingredients of every candle and home fragrance item, I became acutely aware of the artificial additives, leading me to try and find completely natural essential oil candles that I could afford, which also gave a therapeutic effect.

And that is how 21 Scents was born – from an experience that has been a journey of awareness and discovery of things that I never thought I'd need to know or understand.

21 Scents is my new venture. Aromatherapy-grade essential oil and pure soy wax products, handmade by me in our family home. They are free from lead, paraffin, artificial fragrance, and anything toxic or harmful.

2% of each large candle sale is donated to the Down's Syndrome Association. 
Theo has made me feel like I can conquer anything that comes my way in life. He is my total inspiration and I am doing this for him ❤
